Range Rover's Evoque Cabriolet is reportedly bound for a production debut, nearly two years on from its Geneva Motor Show unveiling.
A Land Rover insider is understood to have confirmed with Britain’s What Car? that the Evoque convertible has been given the green light for a 2014 launch.
“The Evoque Convertible now has the green light, it’s going to be built,” the source said.
The report comes despite whispers earlier this year that suggested full-scale production of the open-topped SUV had been ruled out.
New reports claim the production version will retain much of the concept’s features, including a three-door body style and a folding fabric roof instead of metal.
Engines choices are also believed to mirror the regular Evoque range, with both petrol and diesel options to be made available in the convertible.
As far as medium convertible SUVs go, the Range Rover Evoque would be the only model on the market, at least in Australia.
As such, Land Rover will likely target customers for the likes of Audi’s TT Convertible and the open-topped BMW 3 Series.
Speaking of Australia, no word yet on whether a Range Rover Evoque Convertible would be offered for sale here.
